If you have air-conditioning, please post your address and we will be over straight away! How do you deal with the heat? I keep the windows open all night and close them during the day and lower the blinds. In California, I used aluminum sunshields (designed for car or truck windshields), inside the blinds to block the sun. Also ceiling fans. Also portable electric fans. We had a “swamp cooler” which is a primitive form of air conditioning, where a fan pushes air over water or ice and cools the room down.
June 29, 2005 at 4:05 pm #1576HollywoodMemberI have a ceiling fan and two portable fans. If I had the money to pay for a real air conditioner (and this would include the money I would need to pay for the electricity bill for it) I would buy one. 😎 We also have blinds on all four windows which stay closed until the morning sun has gone over to the other side of the arch that our flat is located in. Now if I had a bathtub then I probably would fill it up with cool water and just soak for awhile. But if it does get too hot for me to handle then I can always climb into our freezer. 😀
June 29, 2005 at 5:06 pm #1577AmberMemberI have to say that the apartment hasn’t been too hot and sticky through the day. However in the night it is horrible and leaving the fan on is just too noisy or it gets too chilly.
Mostly I am drinking alot…I am actually enjoying beer for a change! I am also trying not to eat too much ice cream but the magnum touch is just too nice!

June 30, 2005 at 6:19 am #1579adminKeymasterSpending the evening on the banks of the Danube with long swims in between is a great way to cool off after a hot day in the city.
June 30, 2005 at 11:46 am #1580adminKeymasterI’ll go along with that!
I am lucky because I have a pool at home (for use only by residents in my building) and also my lounge and bedroom are on the side of the building which does not get the sun late in the day, so these rooms stay relatively cool.
Also my office does not get too warm so I only switch on the air-conditioning if it is REALLY hot and sticky! Usually I just have the window open.
Vienna is overall pretty good for enjoying the hot weather – so many miles of Danube to swim in, and also the woods for walking are not far away.
June 30, 2005 at 12:31 pm #1581adminKeymasterI think my 10€ fans simply circulate the hot air. Night is worst, I cant open the windows because of the idiot neighbours. A ceiling fan would be a great idea, maybe I should motivate the Wiener in that direction. I also do a lot of sitting around the house eating ice cream in an attractive fashion combo of flipflops, boxers and a wifebeater.
I have seen a lot of the Schwiegereltern lately…maybe due to their lovely terrace and the pool on the roof of their building…
😀

Please define wifebeater. 😯
July 6, 2005 at 2:27 pm #1584ElaineMemberWife beater, also wifebeater, and sometimes abbreviated as simply beater, is a slang term used in the United States to refer to a tank top style shirt when worn as a sole, outer layer (as opposed to being worn as an undershirt).
July 7, 2005 at 6:11 am #1585jnoParticipantI think if air-conditioning was a little cheaper I might consider getting it. It’s a portable Media-Markt “Sea Breeze” fan for me though – in July I tend to have this strapped to me the whole time.

Thanks, I have never heard this expression in Texas.
July 9, 2005 at 7:58 am #1587ElaineMemberA wifebeater T-shirt and a mullet make a perfect fashion statement!
Click on: “Classifications: Classic Mullet”
01. classic mullet: this specimen is a clear demonstration of a classic mullet. Note how this mullet proudly displays his exotic plumage while in a menacing stance. Classic indeed. The mesh tank-top, digital watch, silver chain, and molester mustache all add points to this fine specimen’s overall look and mulletude.

I heard that the temperature was 1C in Gastein yesterday! And there was snow at the higher elevations. As Igor said in “Young Frankenstein”, “Could be worse, could be raining.” Young Frankenstein Sound Clips
