We have to take in account that it is October. Lets face it – Winter is coming. So is time to put the heating on?
October 3, 2005 at 7:01 pm #1625adminKeymasterLets enjoy Autumn!!! Kastanien, yellow leaves, Bratkartoffel, digging your mittens from summer retirement, grey skies, making soup, pumpkins, Halloween, two days off work- fabulous!!! But I am Scottish and thus inclined towards cool miserable weather.
I dug out my winter fleece yesterday with great joy. π
October 4, 2005 at 9:37 am #1626adminKeymasterπ― HEAT???? Surely you have got to be kidding!! I am still wearing short sleeves and sleeping with the windows open at night! I am partial to cooler weather! Anything over 80 degrees F is too hot! π

I am with you on that one. π
October 4, 2005 at 10:11 am #1628adminKeymasterI am in shorts and no shirt (the glories of telework).
No heat is on, and didn’t even think about it.
Despite the alleged Hispanic heritage, I always got in disputes with family and work colleagues about leaving windows open in mid-winter, so maybee I am a bad statistical data source.
Although, thanks for the reminder, I need to get the thermostat fixed.
October 4, 2005 at 11:45 am #1629ViennamomMemberThe heat’s already working overtime on the trams.
(I never understand why the non-AC-prone Viennese who tell you how temperature differences between in and outdoors in summer are so into overheating in the winter. Going into a tram or shop here in winter is like going into a sauna.)
October 4, 2005 at 12:59 pm #1630adminKeymasterAMEN SISTER!!! I am roasting on the public transport here and get very dirty looks when I open the windows π ! But you know… I canΒ΄t stand the heat. I think that it comes from growing up in Alabama and being forced to play in the sweltering heat in the middle of August when my mom was tired of us being inside! We never had real snow and cold and I love it now! My husband grew up in Michigan where it is really cold and he hates the cold! LOL π I guess it is all a matter of what you wish you had! I love the cooler weather. I could live in 60-70 F any day!
October 4, 2005 at 1:27 pm #1631SilviaMemberStrangely enough the Viennese think you get a cold or the flu or something really deadly from a draft. That is why they are forever slamming the windows shut on public transport even when it is hot as hell outside.
October 4, 2005 at 5:07 pm #1632AmberMemberI think you are more likely to get the flu from going from over heated trams into the cold and so forth. Also the constant cold coming in as the doors open and close.
October 4, 2005 at 7:02 pm #1633adminKeymasterInteresting about them thinking you get the cold or the flu from a draft.
In some countries, doctors think those are viruses and that you are more likely to get them from being in close contact with infected people- perhaps in a cramped subway car? Maybe around here the viruses just fly in the window. π
October 4, 2005 at 7:53 pm #1634AmberMemberOh when I think about how many people sneeze into their hands and then open the doors on the public transport or press the buttons etc! It is no wonder we all get ill!

That would be on my shortlist of things to change in Austria.
Someone coming over and leaning over you, reaching to the window and shutting it, as if there is some right anyone has to shut a window no matter how hot it is inside or out.
That drives me bananas.
There is a draft is “Es zieht” and they’ll say this to somehow quote the 11th commandment “Thou shalt not allow breezes in public places”.
Gosh I hate that!
October 5, 2005 at 9:32 am #1636AmberMemberIt is really bad in the summer. It is boiling hot, you are sweating and suddenly feel this nice draft of cool air. Then you hear the words “Es zieht” and the window, door etc is suddenly closed!
