Well, I have done it……..I have bought Win Vista Ultimate OEM.
I installed it and use a bootloader to be able to boot XP, Vista and fedora.I like vista so far…..
Why don’t we discuss the pros and cons of moving to Vista……please, constructive criticism…not just it sucks………just because you don’t like change.
I must admit, I have only really used it on my home PC for about a week.
September 16, 2008 at 4:33 pm #1717snowdogMemberWindows Vista I have found it to be a resource hog. It is also a pain to use, I went back to XP. Nothing was strightforward.
If you are using a desktop with plenty of memory and disk space it may be okay. I use a laptop and found out with the xcess OS overhead battery life dropped by about a third.
My dislike is not because it was change, it just did not work in an efficent manner.
September 16, 2008 at 4:54 pm #1718mhbdebMemberI can see where that would be a problem for some machines. I noticed that I have over 70 processes running. My computer is running very well. I know with the same computer 50 processes would bog it down under XP.
My computer rating under Vista is 5.6Configuration:

My laptop is new, and very fast here are the specs. battery life extended and my applications speeded up when I went to XP.

In Vista.at least the Ultimate edition…..Control Panel/System and Maintenance/System/
Click on “Check your computer’s Windows Experience Index base score”
go through the automated diagnostics and Bamm your score……
I like the look and feel of Vista. Very fast boot times.
I did have a problem when I first installed it with a video driver. That is ATI’s fault I think. ATI has always put out buggy drivers and software for their hardware.
I like the parental controls. So many features.
It is a little different than XP. I hope so…..Why would I want to buy a new OS that has just got a face lift?
I have only tried a small portion of what Vista can do.
I like the fact that I can have the OS in nearly any other language I choose. This is convenient since I live in a bi-lingual household. One user name is English version and the other German in my case. This is cool. The best part is that is was so easy to setup. Just downloaded a file from MS. I could be mistaken, but, this feature may only be available with the Ultimate edition.
It is only available if you have the English version initially from what I understand as well.I like it so far..

Which Operating System do you guys use and why???
I would like to know all your likes and dislikes.
I like hearing different views on the subject.😛
September 18, 2008 at 8:49 pm #1722adminKeymasterHey,
I run vista ultimate x64 and ubuntu hardy x64 on my laptop.
I got this laptop for a bargain b4 vista came out. was only £400 from UK around 1.5 years back and came with a voucher for a free vista upgrade. Its a 1.67ghz Centrino Duo(core2Duo) and now has 2gb ram(its so cheap for laptop ram!)Ive made many a OS install so pretty much tweaked my setup till its optimum performance. Although it does fire up so faster than XP…it seems to take longer to shutdown.
As for Ubuntu…its all ways really quick, and a lot of the open source applications are beta than the windows equivalents (i hate IE,Outlook,LiveMessenger, & WMP). But I keep having problems with dreamweaver in wine. and I really need my dreamweaver so windows is still around. I do tend to get occasional stability issues with Ubuntu but thats largely due to taking on board beta patches and untested updates.
Id say I have had more problems going from 32bit OS to 64bit than from XP to Vista.
As for mac’s, my ex has a macbook. I think its worth half the money she paid for it.(that’s not y we split up!!!) Oh and can you actually do any real work on macs or are they just for making pretty presentations, and photo albums and stuff like that?
April 25, 2017 at 7:15 am #5630LovendozParticipantFirst, we won’t accept the change. But after the installation, we will like it. I have used it. And it has got several advantages.
