Has anyone been to the dentist here? I know different procedures have different costs, but I think I have to get rid of my wisdom teeth. Has anyone had that done here and how much would that cost?
I know my insurance does´nt cover dental plan.Go to Hungary. Much better pricing and, often, much better care. If you take the train to Mosonmagyarovar, Hungary, ask the OEBB staffer about “specials” and they should offer a 14 Euro roundtrip ticket. It’s about 1 hour away. Pharmacies there are also much cheaper – you may need a handful of painkillers for when the anesthesia wears off. Get some money changed to forints BEFORE you go, the buses don’t take Euro and you gotta take a bus to the clinic.( 10 mins).

That doesn’t seem too bad. I just checked what the cost would be in the UK, and found a ballpark quote of £177. That would be for private treatment (not an NHS dentist, if you’re lucky enough to find one), but I have had emergency dental treatment in Austria (which was covered by insurance), and the standard of treatment at the WGKK was easily as good as that of a UK private practice. I have heard frequently that Hungarian dental treatment can be excellent if you go to a reputable dentist, but I don’t think the Austrian system is as bad as people make out.
On a related question: it’s been a while since I had a check-up, and while there’s nothing wrong with my teeth I could do with a scale and polish. Could anyone advise on the cost of that in Hungary compared to Austria? It’s a simple procedure so I can imagine that the difference in price – once you factor in the extra travel cost – might well be negligible.
If you have the e-card, then the dentist will do it for free. I will have one removed next week, and I’m not paying a singel cent…

What’s free and what isn’t is a source of confusion for me. My emergency treatment was, but I don’t think Zahnpflege is however.
My pulling out of wisdom teeth are free with the e-card. And one dental checkup a year is for free. And if you need a filling. You don’t pay for the job but if you choose the more expensive withe filling then you have to pay for the filling. But the grey/silver one is for free. I hope i didn’t confuse you now.
You will soon discover that Austria may have great medical coverage but their dental coverage is crap. This is why so many Austrians go to Hungary when they need the more expensive dental work done.
When I had to have a filling done here I found out that I had to pay €20 for the novocaine shot I requested. :yikes: They told me that the dental insurance here doesn’t pay for the novocaine shots if you ask for one BEFORE your procedure. But there is a way around that. If you tell the dentist that you will try the procedure without the novocaine but as soon as he makes the first drill you say something to the effect of “No way! I need the novocaine!”, then you will not be charged for the shot. I wish I had known this the first time then I would have saved myself €20. 👿
i would not recommend Hungary… The quality is not good. Unless you really really have a good recommendation.

I have four children and i use white fillings.. I have WGKK, but prefer to go to Hungary. Top work there, all Dentists trained in Germany and they use top German crowns (best in the world I am told). So nice to be treated nicely as well. My Dentist here was so brutal to my children.
I find the Dental Treatment in Hungary alot more professsional and a better qualitiy.
The prices are less than 1/3, i recently had crown work using swiss high quality crowns and as well as cheaper it is faster.All in all a better service.
The Austrian dental charges are a rip off.
