When I was visiting San Francisco this month, I noticed that Groupon and Living Social were tremendously popular for good deals & coupons in restaurants, hotels, fitness, massage, movie tickets, beauty services, fitness classes, etc. Groupon is available also for Vienna:

Also if you are traveling, you might find some good deals in your destination cities.August 24, 2011 at 10:22 am #1979gemmaannaMemberI’ve had really bad experiences with groupon both in Vienna and in the UK. If it’s a good deal, the business offering it is often swamped by the demand and also uses any trick at their disposal to stop you redeeming it (e.g. issuing invalid vouchers, for a fish pedicure claiming for months that the fish were ‘poorly’ and then that the saturday girl had accidentally deleted all bookings so they couldn’t honour it.
You have 14 days to get a refund, but that is often not long enough to realise that the company is not going to be very co-operative in letting you redeem the voucher.
Also, you have to phone to complain and get the refund, and that can be a long wait on a paid-for number.
In short, I would suggest only ordering them if you don’t mind risking losing the money you spend.August 24, 2011 at 2:39 pm #1980PennyMemberHave used Groupon and DailyDeal quite a lot in the past several months. Have never had any trouble getting any of the coupons honoured. Have purchased coupons for meals, museum entries, guided tours, photo processing, vitamin tablets and pedicures. No problems at all.
July 23, 2012 at 7:44 pm #2079CandraMemberHi,
The only problem I ALWAYS get from Groupon is when I buy something on the INTERNET from their partner companies which ask for codes.
The codes from groupon voucher will not be recognized and I have to write several times to groupon before the problems are solved. Otherwise I have never had problems with their vouchers for restaurants, museums, etc.July 23, 2012 at 7:54 pm #2080blueorangeMemberCandra, it might be because the deal is not finished yet that the codes don’t work. They work only after the deal is completely finished, which recently became quite a long time – 1-4 days…
July 23, 2012 at 8:54 pm #2081CandraMemberNo, Blueorange.
I applied the code 24 hours after I got the voucher, so the deal is supposed to be completely finished. For example: I bought & received a voucher for Mujjo Gloves on 26 Feb, and tried to redeem it for the next TWO WEEKS, and finally on the 12 March Mujjo finally accepted the voucher. It happened to other ONLINE orders too (business cards from Vista Print, etc). Sometimes it takes a week or less (if I am lucky) for them just to process the order, and I have to keep on calling or writing to them.
So I don’t want to order anything from any ONLINE partner companies from Groupon anymore, just buy their vouchers for restaurants / museums /….July 23, 2012 at 11:23 pm #2082blueorangeMemberthe last body shop offer was cool :)) there were like 1500 vouchers sold at the mid-point . i bought lots of stuff today.
I had issues with online – but successfully resolved them.
btw, sometimes they prolong the deals…
July 24, 2012 at 2:52 am #2083traveler9MemberA friend lost all the money she paid because the vendor was basically a scammer, and when she contacted Groupon they denied any responsibility and would not help her. So what exactly does Groupon do then? If they don’t vet the vendor, and won’t reimburse a customer when the vendor’s official address is an empty retail space, what exactly are they doing? Why should you use them?
July 24, 2012 at 7:37 am #2084blueorangeMemberha – i had the same instance. some massage salon disappeared after a couple of month 🙂 I lost 40 Euros- no big deal. You have to be discerning when choosing a deal. Groupon is dealing with millions of sellers, they can’t screen them all. Groupon does online marketing, customer acquisition, provides a platform for sellers – they are not a seller – just a channel.
For example, you wouldn’t sue immobilien.net if you the information on an apartment was not truthful in the ad placed on their site …
July 24, 2012 at 12:44 pm #2085blueorangeMemberWhy should I?! I am happy with their service.
Perhaps you didn’t quite understand my message. Sorry for that.

If you paid by Paypal/ Credit card, usually at least the credit card companies will have a refund policy on such cases. Have you tried contacting the credit card company?
