Hey, can anyone here help me with something.
In March, I joined a gym here in Vienna (a powerplate place) and signed up for a two year contract. I went for two or three weeks but then due to medical reasons I had to stop. I asked them how I could go about cancelling the contract and they told me I just needed to provide a letter from a facharzt and that they could close the acccount. I provided the letter, but they told me that I cannot cancel the contract, but gave me the option to suspend it for six months and then resume it. I again emailed explaining that I cannot do it due to medical reasons so it isn’t a matter of choice, and they told me that I can downgrade my contract to a 6 month contract, pay for the full six months, and then at the end of this time, pay another couple of hundred euro to make up the difference between the 6 month long membership fees, and the 24 month long membership fees.
I would understand this fully, had I been cancelling as a matter of preferance. However, my doctor has stated that I cannot do powerplate training. Is what they are doing allowed? Do I have any choices other than to pay a few hundred euro for a membership I was able to use for a few weeks before I had to quit? I’m also annoyed that I had to pay €150 for a procedure at my doctor.
Am I just terribly unlucky here, or are the powerplate business being unreasonable? If anyone can help here I would appreciate it ever so much!
Hi ShellyC,
did you try Arbeiterkammer or Konsumentenschutz to ask them if this 2 years contract is ok?
The other thing would be, to ask a friend if she or he would want to join a gym. I am thinking that somebody would like to undertake your contract. Maybe that is possible.
All the best
