St. Patrick’s Day in Vienna
On March 17th the Irish celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, with more and more “non-Irish” joining the grand celebrations every year.
Worldwide, there are big parades, festivals and parties – and Vienna is no exception.
Already on Saturday, the 14th, Irish and those with an Irish affinity gathered to celebrate a mass in the Schottenkirche and then marched through the streets for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Today not only the Burgtheater will shine in green, but also the Viennese Giant Ferris Wheel will be illuminated in the most Irish of all colors. Visitors called Patricia or Patrick and those, who have the words „green“ or „grün“ in their names get a free ride today.
