My kids go to a nursery group set up as an elternverwaltete Kindergruppe. This means there is a max of 14 children and the parents have a big say in how it is run but must also take part in cooking and cleaning duties on a rota (about twice per five weeks).
I love it because it is so family like, which can be nice when you live abroad away from your own family. The teachers are very experienced and lovely and well used to having children from different language backgrounds etc. Vegetarians are also well catered for. The group takes kids from 2 to 6 years and is open from 7.30 in the morning till 15.30 in the afternoon. They also go on lots of outings and spend loads of time outside in the fresh air.
My (English speaking) 4yo goes there now and baby daughter will follow.
If you are interested in places, you can email me at fstranslate@chello.at and I will pass on the info.
