Gay & Lesbian Sports
Most gays and lesbians love to do sports. That is really no secret to anyone any more since the huge international success of the Outgames and the Gay Games. Vienna is home to a few sports clubs and groups, which provide the opportunity to gays and lesbians to play sports amongst themselves.
Particularly interesting to all guests are sporting events of national and international dimensions where gay and lesbian sportspeople meet to compete. This development has led to a more diverse tournament calendar.
Austria’s biggest gay and lesbian sports club Aufschlag Wien is the driving force behind this. Annually, they hold the Vienna Beach Trophy, Europe’s biggest GLBT beach volleyball tournament.

Apart from Aufschlag, there are a number of clubs which are dedicated to improving the physical fitness of gay and lesbian bodies in a comfortable atmosphere. Marantana offers women’s volleyball, and Männer auf Touren will take you on hiking expeditions in the surrounding hills of Vienna and beyond to the highest alpine peaks.
If you want to stay in shape during your trip to Vienna, we would like to point out that most fitness studios and gyms are rather well attended from a gay perspective. An especially high homo-density can be found at all the gyms of the inexpensive Club Danube chain, at the exclusive John Harris gym, the BodyStyle fitness club located in proximity to the Gay District and the two Elixia gyms. Now get your weights, girls.
Kaiserbründl – The younger brother of Emperor Franz Josef was one of the patrons in what is today the Kaiserbründl bathhouse. He truly enjoyed the pleasures of the oriental bath and its guests, which caused an enormous scandal at the turn of the last century. This largest Viennese gay sauna offers a steam bath, Finnish sauna, fitness, a cruising labyrinth, etc.
