OMG! What a can of worms this has opened. Unbelievable really
@Forest, thanks for the support. Nice to know that there are like-minded people out there.@Bev, I agree also with a lot that you have said. It can be so difficult for talented and experienced people to come over and then be held back because they are not fluent in the native language. I am also aware that there are “cowboys” out there,Unfortunately I learned that personally from experience. And I suppose that’s why the English speaking community would prefer dealing with a workman/tradesman to whom they can properly communicate with. Well, I would personally. I know also from experience that local tradesmen can be quite intimidating to a non-native and I have felt that I haven’t got what I wanted or asked for, because “they have known better” And trying to complain in limited German has proven to be too problematic, and therefore just left. But that was just me. And I know of a few others that have had similar experiences.
Ciaran is a new comer here, and is doing his best. He is currently learning German to better his opportunities. He is registered here, has all his insurances sorted and is currently trying to find his feet. He is exploring all avenues. He has various and legitimate references, if requested. He has a great talent, is competent and has a lot of experience in his field. Apropos Bev, Ciaran mentioned to me that you called him this morning 😉
@BO, I’m not even going to honour your negativity with a remark.I am saddened that there are such negative people out there that can’t and won’t give decent and hard-working people a chance. It’s very sad! I suppose we all live and learn, and some people never fail to disappoint, or stamp on our peoples chances. I thought by putting the Ad up that I would be helping someone out, now I feel that I have only hindered their chances.
You know that Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer started out with a single market stall. And that really is all I’m going to say on the matter.November 22, 2012 at 12:06 pm #2383loulouParticipantBO – good abbreviation! :nd:
November 22, 2012 at 9:34 pm #2384blueorangeMemberi am having fun with this board – love to observe the collective ‘consciousness’ ( a euphemism of course) of masses raising and going over the board. people never reading the actual message, living in their own head, getting overemotional, incapable of actually dealing with the argument without becoming angry and personal. just wonderful to watch. sad too. but more funny than scary. makes me come back once in a while to this otherwise dead message board…. it’s so boring most of the time. Maybe you can all go gangman style on me that would make a nice scene.
PS: this does not of course apply to the more intelligent part of readers who sneak peak and don’t post. Please beware of dodgy ads of people whom you are planning to invite to your home!
November 22, 2012 at 9:45 pm #2385blueorangeMemberDizzyHunter, your message is totally irrelevant.
There was a simple question: does he have a Licensse from WKO? no negativity, no insinuations, nothing. Just an inquiry – a legitimate one – about the qualifications of a specialist. (Who for some reason is not able to post here himself?! )What’s wrong with inquiring about qualification?!
Construction workers are notorious for bad quality – why can’t we have a straight answer – yes or no to WKO License?!
I love entrepreneurs and start-uppers, I just don’t like unprofessional services – especially where construction is involved.
November 22, 2012 at 10:11 pm #2386blueorangeMemberto everyone who over-reacted with irrelevant replies, please here is my original – totally neutral in tone message – not addressed to anyone in particular. so please stop the drama.

Reading through ads for home renovations, i started to wonder why they don’t post their real names and country of origin.
I would not contact someone anonymous from the internet without some kind of formal identification.
It’s not like buying an Ikea shelf. Really, guys, get serious, if you want some enquiries. Here – free customer feedback for you.
November 22, 2012 at 10:14 pm #2387blueorangeMembersorry for many messages but i have to read them one by one 🙂
So thank you kiwi for at least writing your real name:) That shows that you are serious.

Your original is not neutral in tone at all. It’s extremely pompous and high-minded. And your so-called “free customer feedback” is completely useless.
I really couldn’t care less whether a handyman has a licence from the WKO or not. I don’t even know what the friggin’ letters stand for, nor do I care. A personal recommendation from a satisfied customer is all I require, not some ridiculous certificate.
November 22, 2012 at 11:31 pm #2389blueorangeMemberit’s your perception – i.e. projection of your own suppressed anger onto my words. My words were totally neutral. i even put them in a question form and said ‘i started to wonder’.
nothing negative – just a question and a suggestion.I wouldn’t invite a Fuzzysomething into my home, what you do is up to you. But I believe I have the right to my own point of view.
November 22, 2012 at 11:45 pm #2390blueorangeMemberwell, what next FuzzyMuzzy doctor, lawyer or tax advisor?!
how low will your standards go?!
anyone in serious business will tell you that you don’t promote business like that. some kinda Mickey Mouse stuff, kindergarten really. oh well, I just wanted to help 😛November 23, 2012 at 2:45 pm #2391SilviaMemberOk blueorange, we know how much you love to critique the world and everyone in it. In fact a nay from you is an almost guaranteed reference for many. The people who advertise or have advertised in our Classifieds are often self employed or starting a new venture so we offer them the service free because from experience I know how tough it can be to get a start in this town.
As anyone who uses a classified knows it is buyer beware and your job to do the background check. The person listing also knows that this is just a start and they will have to build up a business by word of mouth and personal recommendations and a lot of other hard work.
Why you have set yourself up as the product control person for the Vienna Expat Community I am not sure, but it would be nice if you kept your critique to yourself, if you do not know or have not dealt with the people. It really is not fair to them to try to smash their attempt at making a living nor is it fair to poke fun or call their ventures names.
So please think before you type and try a little empathy for an change your coming across as a cranky old relic and that just is not attractive or welcome.
November 24, 2012 at 3:34 pm #2394chefsmithMemberIt’s water off a ducks back to me, I’m thick skinned and have other resources of information available to me, so blueoranges mostly scathing posts don’t affect me.
I sometimes get some kind of sadistic enjoyment watching him/ her lambast somebody.
But I think BO is genuinely ruining the site for first timers who just don’t need the hassle, people for whom this can be their first port of call when looking for advice or trying to integrate.
I know 2 fantastic contributors whom have stopped posting as they just can’t be bothered arguing over every little detail with BO, Which is costing the site in terms of friendly, great knowledgable advice which is what this site is all about. It’s like the class clown in school whom holds everybody back.
I’m sure BO will not be bothered by this post, as I’m sure my opinion means as much to him/ her as him/hers means to me.
But there it is

BO, this is called ‘Trolling.’ I know I personally barely use this board because I find your posts so obnoxious, and I’ve even PM’d the administrator to ask if we could block you somehow. Unfortunately she said no. But from her reply I got the impression I was not the first person to ask.
December 8, 2012 at 5:33 am #2414immerMemberDug this out just for grins.
KNOW A NARCISSIST?Here are the signs of narcissism. It takes five or more before you can slap the label on someone:
1. An exaggerated or grandiose sense of self-importance that isn’t supported by reality
2. A preoccupation with fantasies of extraordinary success, wealth, power, beauty and love
3. A belief that he/she is special and unique and can only be understood by other special people
4. An intense need for admiration
5. A sense of entitlement
6. A tendency to exploit others without guilt or remorse
7. An absence of meaningful empathy
8. A tendency to be envious or to assume that he/she is the object of others’ envy
9. An arrogant attitudeDecember 11, 2012 at 12:03 pm #2418loulouParticipantHmm – it’s kinda frightening to realise that I have come across several people in my life who would fit that description. Actually, quite depressing.
Sometimes I think I am too nice for my own good. 🙁
