It may be unpleasant for you to do the lawyer thing, in your frame of mind, (I didn’t, and have regreted it ever since) but you really ought to. You have ‘invested’ in this relationship. And should get some kind of payback. Starting again ‘back home’ will be expensive, even with the help of friends and relatives.

And maybe you are secretly hoping to yourself that a lawyers letter will bring him to his senses, but don’t bet on it!

The Indian gentleman is completely right too, in my experience. People are the same no matter where one goes. There may be different layers of culture, and beliefs, but at core, they are all the same. And all have similar needs.
