Hi everyone,
Has anyone here done an “english job only” job search?
I have an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, graduate degree in marketing, and 2 years working experience in marking/pharmaceuticals. I also now have a work permit. However my German is only a B1/B2 level, and while I am in classes I would really like to work now, in an English environment.
How can I find out which companies operate in English? Do I just look for postings on Monster and karriere.net? Should I call companies I’m interested in and ask?
Any advice is appreciated!
Btw I am American, and have been told American companies in Vienna like to hire other Americans, is this true? That would be nice!

Right at the top click on “career” (it’s next to web directory) and then you will see near the top at the left hand corner a link titled: “latest job openings” click on that and you will see several postings. Remember to scroll down to see the posts from individual companies. These postings are from companies looking for English speakers.Good luck!
December 30, 2011 at 11:56 am #2020canadianMemberI know Red Bull hires English speakers and if you know anything about hockey..it’s pretty much English as well..there are local teams you can apply for. Equipment manager and whatnot,
Try a company called Borealis.. They hire a lot of research people for plastics..Most of their core are English speakers from Canada, though I think it’s a plastics company.

Try http://www.viennabiocenter.org/sites/services/jobs.html
The working language at all 18 institutes is English and the culture is very international. (I work there).
January 8, 2012 at 12:35 pm #2023lovelight15MemberThank you guys for all these suggestions! Mike- Baxter is actually top on my list. I got to the final round for a position with them in Nov/Dec. They told me to apply again bc similar positions open often so hopefully next time will be the charm!

You ll be surprised finally , when you ll relise that the problem it’s not your Deutsch level , but that the people are Fascists and racists.
Try send your CV’s obtaining that you know “good Deutsch”.
Soon you ll receive the same answers from anyone and figure
that a native took the job , even if he is lower educated than you.

November 10, 2012 at 9:13 pm #2341lovelight15MemberHey everyone, just as an FYI i did get a great job in Vienna rather quickly and I’m very happy. There’s a lot of doom and gloom on this website about job searching but I think thats just because when it works out you forget/dont have time to come back and post about it!
November 10, 2012 at 11:30 pm #2342blueorangeMemberit’s true about doom and gloom. but a great job means very different things to people. I personaly see a great job as an oxymoron. just because of the word ‘job’ 👿

Yea, I come from a family of workaholics/career lovers, so maybe its genetic, but its a great job in that its well paid, lots of responsibility/importance/autonomy, I really admire the people I work with, and its on the career track I always wanted. But i loved my last job in the USA too, so I think I just enjoy working. The 2 years I was back in grad school and didn’t have a set routine every day I was miserable. Too much free time just doesn’t feel right, you know what I mean?
November 11, 2012 at 8:17 pm #2347blueorangeMemberI know EXACTLY what you mean 😉
But to me struggling with the tyranny of free time is much more meaningful than tolerating an idiot-boss. Or sitting at the desk for hours – no! Alas, this world is not made for night owls, free souls and people who can self-regulate. Most people need someone to structure their tiime. I don’t.
